VOUGHT OS2U KINGFISHER

The Kingfisher was designed in 1937 as a float plane to operate from the Navy's battleship fleet. It saw action in all theaters during WWII, operating in the scout-observation role and combat and rescue roles. The Kingfisher was credited with downing a Japanese Zero, sinking a German submarine, and rescuing WWII ace Eddie Rickenbacker after his B-17 crashed at sea. Approximately 1,500 Kingfishers were produced, with only a few examples surviving in 2005.
